200
kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), heading
to the North on highway No.1 (about 3 hours by car), you will
reach Phan Thiet - the center town of the Binh Thuan Province.
On
your way
there you will find
fascinating roadside sights
such as unlimited rubber tree
plantations, banana trees, and
dragon fruit along with miles of colorful, picturesque rice
fields. You will also come across small fishing villages teaming
with their catches of the day.
With your camera in hand, you won't let yourself
sit still when your eyes catch little boys clinging on buffalo
backs or Vietnamese fishermen tending to their nets.
Once you reach Phan Thiet there are other exciting
places to see and explore. Situated just a few kilometers from
the Novotel Ocean Dunes is a perfect spot for excursion, red
sand dunes stretching along the Mui Ne cape for more than 16km,
providing excellent walking.
You
could also explore one of the most ancient temples
of the Cham people which was built in the 15th century,
located between Phan Thiet town and Mui Ne cape. The
Cham ethnic minority is one of the oldest ethnic groups in Vietnam
and well known for their construction skills.
 The
Kega Lighthouse is 50 meters high and the first one
built in South East Asia. It was built by the French in 1899
with stone taken from the cliffs along the beach.
Fishing
along side the Kega Lighthouse
is a favorite pastime for locals and tourists alike as well
as other activities such as horse back riding along Phan Thiet's
beaches.
All and all Phan Thiet
has a lot to offer those who are looking for a relaxing getaway
from the hustle and bustle of big city life. |
